Introducing Metafora - one of the most iconic mid-century modern table designs.
Designed in 1979 by Lella & Massimo Vignelli for Martinelli Luce, the Metafora is charmed for its choice of form and material. Featuring four forms representing Euclidean geometry, no detail is coincidental - each symbolising a time or element of human history. They can be positioned freely without affecting the stability but must all be present.
The Sphere: represents the globe, our planet, origin and support of mankind.
The Pyramid: represents Egyptian civilisation as the first important example of social organisation, the cradle of culture and spirituality.
The Cylinder: represents the Roman Empire, the summit of an ancient world which collapsed disastrously (and can be placed upright or overturned!).
The Cube: represents the stone of Kaaba, at Mecca, the founding element of Islam.
